Senior IT Recruiter (6-month Contract)

We’re looking for an experienced Senior IT Recruiter to join our UK Operations team, initially for six months.

Shipley GB / Full Time /

Learn more about this role

Consult Red is a trusted partner to the digital media industry and beyond, driving innovation and delivering support through the entire product development journey.

We apply our cutting-edge experience in software development, hardware, embedded and cloud technology to help companies in all sectors to deliver connected devices and systems.

Founded by five engineering leaders from Pace Micro in 2003, Consult Red has grown a strong reputation working with some of the world’s leading Pay TV, media and OTT operators.

Since then, we have grown from being an embedded specialist in the media sector to a professional services provider working with companies in other industries such as Energy and Healthcare. We’ve applied our cutting-edge experience and talent in product development, hardware, embedded and cloud technology to help customers deliver connected devices and systems.

In 2020 we’ve increased our staff headcount by 15%. And we’re looking to double that growth – to over 200 heads globally – by the end of the year. You can be a big part of that journey!

Currently, having taken their equipment, office chairs, and favourite coffee cups with them, our team members #stayathome and are working safely from there.

As a Senior IT Recruiter, you’ll provide a comprehensive recruitment service for some of our key programmes and projects. We recruit for Software Engineers, Hardware Engineers, Integrators, and Architects, amongst other things. You’ll need to speak the lingo, and have considerable experience in technical recruitment already, to help you hit the ground running.

Part of your role will be managing an extensive network of suppliers, including recruitment agencies, contractors, and other service providers. You should be confident managing these kinds of relationships, including dealing with any issues – whether practical or contractual – and negotiating terms on a variety of business-to-business agreements, whilst keeping an eye on all of the relevant rules and legislation.

This is a fast-moving and pressurised role, and our team deals with plenty of uncertainty. Our customer’s needs and requirements can change and, when they do, we have to react quickly, providing solutions to tight deadlines and even tighter specifications. This means that hard work, resilience, innovation, and expectation management are our bread-and-butter.

To us, recruitment isn’t just another business process. We’re the first point of contact that many people will have with Red, so every interaction is important, and every conversation counts. We’re growing at an incredible pace, and our biggest challenge is to continue to rapidly scale up our workforce, whilst staying true to these principles and standing out from the crowd in a competitive marketplace.

If you have the right kind of experience, and this sounds like the challenge for you, we’d love for you to apply below.

If that is something you can get excited about, we'd love to hear from you.

How you will spend your time

  • 360-degree recruitment for permanent Engineer roles in the UK (both Software and Hardware)
  • Liaising with contractors, recruitment agencies, job boards, and other third parties
  • Negotiating contracts, terms and rates with external suppliers
  • Advising the business on relevant legislative matters, such as GDPR and IR35
  • Supporting with global recruitment needs, primarily in Poland

  • Broad knowledge of relevant UK legislation (GDPR, IR35 etc.)

This role is initially a 6-month fixed-term contract, and we’d need you to start in November 2020 (or sooner, if you can).

  • Experience of recruitment in Poland
  • Experience within a Technology Consultancy environment

How you will spend your time

In this role, you’ll build on your proven experience of software development and add in the ability to lead and inspire your team.

In footballing terms, you’re the Captain, not the Manager. You’ll still be in a hands-on technical role, working day-to-day in a Scrum team, but you’ll be the one your colleagues look to for support, to set their technical direction, help them out of sticky situations, and advise them on the right approach to a problem. Our clients will know you as the most dynamic member of the team (though not necessarily the most senior in years) and as someone they can rely upon to answer their questions and explain difficult technical stuff in a down-to-earth way.

You’ll have excellent knowledge of software development. We mainly use C++ or Java, so experience with those is really helpful, but if you can show expertise in other languages, good theoretical knowledge and an ability to learn quickly we’d still love to hear from you.

You’ll generally be part of an established Agile (Scrum) team. While Scrum teams don’t officially have leaders, you’ll be able to use your experience to offer support and advice to other members of the team.

The work involves the delivery of a wide array of bespoke customer projects – you might be working on anything from the next generation of TV streaming box to a new embedded Internet-of-Things device that might sit at the heart of the home of the future.

Our customers value our expertise and industry experience, so they will look to you for advice, feedback and solutions to a variety of technical problems. This means you’ll need to be knowledgeable, approachable and adaptable; stepping in to assist proactively, wherever you see a potential bump in the road.

This is a highly visible role within the business and, as well as helping others, you’ll have significant opportunities to train, develop yourself, and to progress your own career at Red Embedded.

Consult Red is a trusted partner to the digital media industry and beyond, driving innovation and delivering support through the entire product development journey.

We apply our cutting-edge experience in product development, hardware, embedded and cloud technology to help companies in all sectors to deliver connected devices and systems.

Over the last several years, we’ve grown from being an embedded specialist in the media sector to a provider working with companies in other industries such as Energy and Healthcare. We’ve applied our knowledge and talent in product development, hardware, embedded and cloud technology to help customers deliver connected devices and systems.

We take good care of our staff, not only in terms of salary and benefits, but also when it comes to their place of service delivery. Our teams work from fully equipped laboratories in Yorkshire in the UK, Wroclaw in Poland and Los Angeles, California.

If that is something you can get excited about, we'd love to hear from you.

How you will spend your time

The Senior Integrator role in the dev team, whilst common outside Poland is a relatively new one to Poland. Allow us a moment to describe it in detail for you. You work on large software projects only, in this case software designed for embedded devices that provide video. Firstly your role is to provide a stable working platform for all the other teams on the project. This can take 12 months or more. You provide releases of software and hardware from many sources as the best versions for the development and test parts of the team. You configure a suite of builds using components delivered from various teams. You might also be involved in triaging of major issues where it is unclear which team should fix those issues. In addition you watch for risky software coming into the build and notify teams that should know they may fall out of compliance. Ultimately, yours is a support role that leads to a high quality device serving millions of home users across Europe.

It’s a role that can suit devops or configuration managers or, of course, integrators wishing to step up.
