Quality & Compliance Manager

We’re looking for an experienced Quality & Compliance Manager to join our Operations team in the UK. You’ll be passionate about maintaining quality and security standards across different business areas and will have the knowledge and credibility to communicate and affect change at scale. The Quality & Compliance Manager will join us at a critical time for our business. Consult Red has grown consistently over the past 15 years but, in recent times, that growth has accelerated significantly. This means that our customer base, staff, tools and systems have all grown exponentially over a relatively short space of time, whilst our working practices have simultaneously evolved to cope with the impacts of COVID19.

We take our quality and security responsibilities seriously and, to drive this agenda forward even faster, we’re looking for an experienced subject matter expert to join our team. The Quality & Compliance Manager will oversee a number of significant projects and changes, setting the tone for a business that puts compliance, quality and security at the heart of everything it does. At first, you’ll support a number of high-profile ongoing projects (including ISO27001 certification, which we’ll complete this year). Once you’ve got your feet under the desk, there’ll be plenty more exciting things to get stuck into, and you’ll really get a chance to shine.

This will be a broad, challenging and fast-moving role. You’ll guide various stakeholders across our different offices (UK, Poland and the US) and will lead the way on all of our crucial security and quality standards along with supporting some general business compliance requirements; this will include ISO standards, cybersecurity, GDPR, Health & Safety and environmental standards, to name just a few.

How you will spend your time

  • Ensuring the management, security and integrity of data held within our systems and offices is compliant with company policies, local arrangements and relevant legislation
  • Implementing and ensuring compliance to ISO27001 and other standards
  • Creating and updating company policy to cover appropriate legislation, such as GDPR and Health & Safety
  • Undertaking routine or ad-hoc audits to test compliance and carrying out risk assessments
  • Working across different teams to investigate incidents and breaches.
  • Recommending and implementing appropriate control improvements
  • Providing expert advice to the exec team and senior managers
  • Championing relevant issues in the workplace and coordinating business-wide communications and updates

What you will need to bring

Mandatory Skills

  • A successful track record working in Information Governance and/or security
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO27001)
  • A willingness to get involved in a broad range of general standards, practices and legislation (GDPR, Health & Safety etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels

Desirable Tech Skills

  • Knowledge of cyber security
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
  • Aware of GDPR legislation

How you will spend your time

This role will allow you to develop your management and engineering knowledge and offer challenges to build on your existing skills. You will take responsibility for the delivery of projects and resources working across a varied range of projects for various external and internal customers. You will be required to deliver projects to meet our clients’ needs whilst focusing on maintaining & improving on Consult Reds trusted capability, quality & success. The projects you will take responsibility for will require you to understand and discuss at a technical level meaning this role may be best suited to someone who is moving from an engineering based role into project management. You’ll form part of a team, contributing to product development, verification and be responsible for overall project delivery of your projects.  The results of your work will be important to our clients who operate at the forefront of technologies using embedded hardware and software.

As part of the team, you’ll both develop yourself and contribute to the value we bring to our clients who operate across a wide variety of applications from the lowest power IoT devices to the highest speed home entertainment broadcast receivers.  You will work in a flexible environment reporting to the Head of Hardware and will have considerable exposure to our clients and other partners. You will need to bring a sound engineering knowledge, be able to learn ‘on the job’ and have first rate communications skills.

What you will need to bring

Mandatory Skills

  • A minimum of ten years working in an electronic or software product/project development or manufacture environment.
  • Ability to understand engineering technology, terminology and processes and clearly communicate them via phone, email and other methods.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, written and spoken.
  • Experience of a wide range of relevant products and technologies.
  • Experience of people and project management in a technical environment.
  • Experience of customer facing responsibility including stakeholder management, issue escalation and resolution.

How you will spend your time

You will work in an agile environment reporting to a Group Lead or Project Manager and will have considerable exposure to our clients and other partners. You’ll be a key part of planning, design, development, debugging and integration of embedded software modules for cutting edge broadcast and internet TV receivers (set-top boxes). You’ll create new features while also supporting the C++ debugging team, which will be around a 60/40 split of your time. Most importantly, your work will help deliver a much-needed service for society in lockdown – quick and easy access to some of the World’s best digital TV services.

What you will need to bring

  • Strong experience with C, C++ or Java in an embedded Linux or Android environment
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Experienced developing and debugging multithreaded and/or multi-process code

How you will spend your time

You will work in an agile environment reporting to a Group Lead or Project Manager and will have considerable exposure to our clients and other partners. Working as part of a team, you’ll be a key part of the planning, design, development, debugging and integration of embedded software modules for cutting edge broadcast and internet TV receivers (“set-top boxes”) or similar embedded/Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

  • Strong experience with C, C++ or Java in an embedded Linux or Android environment

Day to day you work with the delivery manager, senior technical leaders, customer stake holders and their partners in a distributed team environment. You will engage in discussions and decision making from Jira issues to architectural discussions through people issues to filtering unreasonable expectations or misguided estimations.

  • 5 years of experience managing software projects at least 3 of which involve embedded devices
  • Demonstrated successful delivery of complex projects involving many stake holders and companies
  • JIRA expertise
  • Strong technical background that enables you to talk tech comfortably
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience with projects in different methodologies (SCRUM, Waterfall, Agile)
  • Ability to negotiate in English.
