End-to-end engineering for an innovative, integrated TV platform
For a Leading European media operator
Challenge
The customer challenge for this project was to successfully introduce a new form factor and disrupt the established market of operator set-top boxes (STBs) and retail TV devices. This involved simplifying the entertainment experience in the home while integrating various technologies to increase operator stickiness with their subscribers.
Additionally, the project needed to address the customer demand for migration to the RDK platform, all while incorporating innovative services and applications like ‘watch together’ features and casual gaming to enhance the overall viewing experience.
Solution
The solution to this challenge included rapidly assembling experienced software and hardware teams to create a proof of concept for customer board approval. A subset of the demonstrated technology was further developed, with Consult Red collaborating closely with the broader customer team through to the product launch.
Consult Red was instrumental in facilitating customer adoption of the RDK platform, leveraging their extensive RDK knowledge and experience.
Additionally, a peripheral camera was developed as a separate device, with Consult Red leading the software design and architecture for both the camera and related applications.
Ultimately, the final product platform has been opened to market syndication opportunities.
Learnings
The project’s learnings included significant experience developing software and hardware specifically for connected TV platforms, unlike traditional set-top box devices.
The initiative pushed the boundaries of what was previously possible within the RDK platform, fostering innovation and creativity.
Additionally, it successfully introduced connected camera technology to a media operator, expanding the capabilities and offerings in the entertainment space.

It enabled complex, market-disrupting product development and introduction, positioning the customer as a leader in the entertainment space.
