Solution
Operator-owned (OEM independent) custom Android TV middleware design and development, including three complete Android version ports to keep platforms future-ready.
Our team works closely with silicon reference platforms, expertly porting software to new hardware environments. We’ve successfully ported custom middleware across multiple OEMs and silicon vendors, ensuring seamless compatibility. We’ve integrated OTT apps with a focus on fast load times and responsive user experiences.
To maintain stability and optimise performance, we monitor set-top box behaviour in the field using Big Data insights, investigating issues proactively to keep devices running at their best.
Learnings
New Android versions often demand more memory, making optimisation essential to maintain smooth performance. Updates can require re-architecting system/platform APK software to ensure full compatibility.
Recertification challenges typically arise from deprecated APIs, restricted permissions and limitations on platform customisations, all of which need careful management.
When hardware decoding isn’t supported, software decoding is necessary, though this can degrade overall performance – a factor we proactively address to keep user experiences seamless.
