Development of a video and health data platform
For a health technology start-up
Challenge
Our customer wanted to provide video communication and health data collection for the NHS and social care system to help support keeping patients out of hospital.
The main objective was to scope, design, and develop the end-to-end service proposition, which would enable video communication in the patient’s home, facilitate health data collection, and relieve pressure on the NHS and social care system.
Solution
We defined an end-to-end technology solution as well as the business strategy and approach to collaboration with care providers.
Consult Red developed the hardware and software solutions, including video communication using the patient’s TV facilitated by a set-top box.
We produced the product prototype and designed and developed the embedded software stack, the cloud platform and the in-home equipment.
In addition to providing manufacturing support, engaging with broadband providers, and developing the service proposition, we also ensured hardware and software compliance with necessary regulations and standards.
Learnings
Our flexible architecture meant the connected system could be deployed and applied in many different scenarios, from integration with kidney dialysis machines to supporting Continua (interoperable standards) compliant pulse oximeters.
Impact and Value
Delivery of a connected communications platform, designed with scale in mind, that was reliable, secure, interoperable and compliant.
The platform intended to keep patients out of hospital by:
– Supporting early discharge
– Providing support to manage long-term conditions
– Facilitating GP referrals to secondary care using video
– Remotely supporting the physical and mental health of prisoners using video.
