Challenge
- Radar technology is new to this customer in the consumer market segment.
- Selecting the best-in-class Radar device with the best features & at the necessary price point.
- No suitable test processes existed.
- Design & test to find the sensitivity sweet spot where we can detect a person sitting still in a room, but not be overly sensitive that moving curtains, pets etc. would cause a trigger.
Solution
- Partner with silicon vendor to use their 24GHz all-in-one highly integrated radar solution.
- Developed bespoke test processes using innovative corner reflectors & turntables.
- A detailed study of the methods and standards lead to an innovative approach to speed up the regulatory compliance (without requiring a Notified Body).
- Detailed knowledge of the silicon design, performing low level register manipulations & tuning with appropriate scripting to enable access to all the devices functionality and utilising machine learning to classify humans / non-humans.

- FMCW (Frequency Modulation Constant Wave) Radar operating and design principles.
- Rapid development and integration of radar solution to a consumer grade electronic product.
- Radar Tuned Range – Angle and Velocity-FFT parameters, RF Front End settings, Chirp and Frame configurations etc, machine learning to classify humans / non-humans.
