De-risking compliance and accelerating time to market
A media product supplier was preparing a new Smart TV for UK and European launch, but compliance testing introduced significant risk.
Challenge
- A media product supplier was preparing a new Smart TV for UK and European launch, but compliance testing introduced significant risk.
- Requirements included an emerging ECO standard that was still evolving, alongside new product features not typically seen in similar devices.
- The product software was still under development, limiting standard UI control, and testing had to be carried out remotely during COVID restrictions, increasing the likelihood of delays, false failures, or incomplete test coverage.

Solution
- Consult Red worked as the bridge between the product team and the compliance lab to ensure testing was accurate and repeatable.
- We implemented Linux-based scripting to automate test execution, data capture, and feature validation where UI control was limited.
- Alongside this, we created bespoke test content, supported interpretation of the evolving ECO standard, ran dry-run testing, and provided remote troubleshooting throughout lab execution.

Learnings
- Evolving compliance standards require early engagement and active interpretation.
- Test automation becomes essential when UI control is limited or incomplete.
- Remote lab support can work effectively when supported by robust tooling, scripting, and preparation.

Impact and Value
- Improved test accuracy and consistency through scripted automation
- Reduced risk of false failures, incomplete testing, and repeat lab cycles
- Enabled effective remote testing and support during COVID restrictions
- Ensured compliance testing was completed in time to support product launch
- Provided clearer alignment between product design, standards, & lab execution
