Feature development & integration for hybrid custom Linux TV platform

Challenge
This project aimed to port and certify the YouTube version supporting Cobalt browser on the custom customer OS. This required a skilled and experienced team to extend the customer’s own capability.
PlayReady expertise was required for this project to resolve a long-standing backlog of related issues, including inefficient regression testing functions that didn’t provide full platform coverage.
The customer was not geared up to work with external 3rd parties.
Solution
The Consult Red team successfully integrated and certified the latest version of YouTube to the customer OS platform.PlayReady DRM backlog issues were successfully resolved.
A suite of regression tests was updated and enhanced to give full platform coverage. The team also assisted in ways of working and process improvements to enable remote 3rd party development.
The team was initially requested for 3 months and remained in place, supporting new features and functionality, for 2.5 years.
Learnings
The main learnings from this project included experience porting to custom Linux platforms, enhanced PlayReady DRM and Broadcom SoC development experience and capabilities.
Throughout this project, we developed trust, essential to removing obstacles in working with third parties and gaining appropriate access and resources.
Impact and value
Successful delivery of integration and certification of YouTube to the customer platform, this project allowed us to clear the longstanding PlayReady DRM issue backlog and provide flexible with project acceleration on demand.
