How you will spend your time

We don’t sell products; we sell expertise. Our Engineering teams are leaders in the Software and Hardware field, providing the kind of solutions that wow our customers into coming back to us again and again.

The Delivery function builds these project teams, ensuring that we have the best possible resource mix in place to meet our customer needs. This process demands a clear picture of resource availability, organisational capacity, and skills tracking. The Project Resource Manager will ensure that this information is available and up-to-date at all times, managing and manipulating large data sets in our ERP system to create insightful reports that aid delivery decision-making.

Exceptional organisation and administration skills are essential but are only part of this role. You’ll also need to be commercially aware and people-focused; an effective communicator, who can liaise with internal Project Managers, Group Leads, and Engineers to communicate – and sometimes negotiate – successful resource moves. This ability to influence and make things happen will be balanced with a keen eye for detail and a passion for data.

How You’ll Spend Your Time:

  • Supporting the Chief Delivery Officer with day-to-day resource management activity
  • Negotiating with Project Managers and Engineers to facilitate resource moves
  • Working with the Recruitment Teams to identify and communicate recruitment needs
  • Supporting the ongoing supply/demand reporting process and capacity planning
  • Monitoring and managing skills, capabilities and training data for all employees
  • Planning and reporting related to resource performance, utilisation and availability
  • Administration of resources and projects within our ERP system (Kimble/Salesforce)

How you will spend your time

Our engineers rely on a range of infrastructure to keep their projects running smoothly – high-powered build servers, instances of off-the-shelf services like Jenkins and Gitlab, and bespoke tools such as our in-house developed platform that allows an engineer to test code and change channels on a TV they are watching from 5000 miles away.

You will work within our Engineering (Delivery) department, and your colleagues will be your customer – providing you with their requirements and supporting you to prioritise the most important features and functionality. You will also work closely alongside our IT (Operations) team to ensure that the right on-premise and cloud infrastructure is in place to support this and that the tools and services integrate neatly with our company’s IT infrastructure.

You will spend some of your time designing and developing software – typically in languages such as Javascript, Python and PHP – and some of your time configuring and deploying both in house and off-the-shelf software onto Linux-based servers and Docker containers.

You will become a champion for the tools you manage, working to spread good practice among our engineer teams and helping to improve our working practices.

Consult Red has a flexible, hybrid working policy, and our engineers can normally work well either at home or in the office. Due to the nature of this role, you’ll sometimes need to work in the office alongside the IT team and occasionally roll up your sleeves to configure hardware or physically push buttons, so you will need to be able to work from our Shipley, West Yorkshire office for at least two days a week. Occasional travel to our office in Wrocław, Poland is also a possibility.

How you will spend your time

In this role, you’ll build on your proven experience in software development and add in the ability to lead and inspire your team. You’ll still be in a hands-on technical role, working day-to-day in a Scrum team, but you’ll be the one your colleagues look to for support, to set their technical direction, help them out of sticky situations, and advise them on the right approach to a problem. Our clients will know you as the most dynamic member of the team (though not necessarily the most senior in years) and as someone, they can rely upon to answer their questions and explain difficult technical stuff in a down-to-earth way.

You’ll have excellent knowledge of software development. We mainly use C++ or Java, so experience with those is really helpful, but if you can show expertise in other languages, good theoretical knowledge and an ability to learn quickly we’d still love to hear from you.

We’re an entrepreneurial, customer-facing consultancy business, so our Technical Leads need to be passionate about innovation, communication, and leading by example in all that they do; consistently providing a first-class service to their team, the business and a wide variety of customer stakeholders.

How you will spend your time

You will work in an agile environment reporting to a Group Lead or Project Manager and will have considerable exposure to our clients and other partners. You’ll be a key part of the planning, design, development, debugging and integration of embedded software modules for cutting edge broadcast and internet TV receivers (set-top boxes). How you will spend your time

  • Design and maintain a modular, extensible architecture of the CPE middleware by translating business needs into technology blocks and modules

What you will need to bring

Mandatory Skills

  • Around 10 years experience of Digital TV and related technologies
  • Broad knowledge of DTV system architectures and specific specialisation in CPE architecture
  • Excellent people skills, including communicating technical ideas, motivating and negotiating with your team – you embody great consulting skills
  • Good understanding of Internet security protocols, system-wide security protocols, cryptography, PKI, SSL/TLS experience
  • RDK 3.0 knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of SW development methodologies, various programming languages (C/C++, JS) with an ability to read code
  • Experience in embedded Linux system internals
  • Excellent written and spoken English and ability to write necessary tech docs such as use cases, sequence diagrams,
  • Great analysis, problem decomposition, software design and architecting skills
  • Ability to translate business requirements into architectural framework and design
  • Design of REST APIs
  • Experience in different CPU/SoC architectures ( i.e. MIPS, ARM, IA32, x86 )
  • CA/DRM experience
  • Ability to break down architecture into detailed engineering tasks
  • Hardware and software architecture capability

Desirable Tech Skills

  • Polish language to interact and guide software developers
  • Previous experience in the Digital TV Architect role

We believe in moving fast and keeping things simple.

Once you submit your CV, we'll send you a short online form asking you to confirm a couple of details. Your application then goes directly to the Hiring Manager to review. We'll always try to come back to you within a few days.

We'll usually do a short first stage telephone interview. If that goes well, we'll want to set up a longer conversation to find out more. Where possible, we'll do a face-to-face interview in our offices, so that you can get a better feel for the company and your team. However, we understand the challenges of COVID-19 and have adapted our business to be completely flexible around the current situation.
